It all began in 1985, when brothers Joseph and Loyola O’Brien set out with a dream and a single boat, launching one of the first tour companies along Newfoundland’s rugged east coast. What started as a small family venture has grown into a thriving operation, now home to four vessels and a bustling event centre.
With 40 years of salty sea stories, whale sightings, and proud moments shared with visitors from around the world, O’Brien’s has become the most seasoned boat tour operator in the province — and a beloved symbol of Newfoundland hospitality.

Now, in 2025, a new chapter unfolds. Brothers Noah, Patrick, and Daniel O’Brien have stepped aboard as the next generation, ready to learn the ropes and chart their own course. With the same passion and pride that guided their father and uncle, they’re dedicated to carrying the legacy forward — keeping the spirit of adventure, family, and tradition alive for generations to come.
