What kind of whales can we see?2026-09-11T15:30:02-02:30

We mostly see humpback whales on our tours, but we can also see minke, fin, and very rarely, blue whales. We might also see orcas and dolphins.

Why should we choose O’Brien’s?2026-09-11T15:31:02-02:30

With over 40 years out on the water, we are proud to be one of the most experienced boat tour operators in Newfoundland. We were one of the very first businesses to offer boat tours here on the east coast of the island! An experience with us will create memories that will last a lifetime.

How do we get to you?2026-09-11T15:30:43-02:30

If you have a vehicle, you can drive to us. We have ample free parking onsite. Alternatively, you can book a spot on our return shuttle service to and from major hotels in St. John’s for an additional charge.

How far are you from St. John’s?2026-09-11T15:30:26-02:30

We are approximately 30-40 minutes from downtown St. John’s by car.

Will we see icebergs, whales, and puffins?2026-09-11T15:28:07-02:30

PLEASE NOTE: we cannot guarantee any sightings, as we are dealing with Mother Nature.

Icebergs do not frequent our waters every summer, but if they do, it’s usually from mid-May until early June.

Whale sightings are highest during the month of July, however we also tend to see them in June and August.

Seabirds nest on the islands at the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve from mid-April until the beginning of September each year. The largest Atlantic Puffin colony in North America (260,000 pairs) nests at the reserve each spring and summer. If you take a tour anytime between May and the beginning of September, we can almost guarantee that you will see puffins!

When do your tours start?2026-09-11T15:27:43-02:30
