The Bay Bulls Lighthouse—also known as Bull Head Light—is a scenic highlight along the East Coast Trail’s Spout Path near Bay Bulls, NL.
Join biologist Dr. Taylor Brown for some of the best wildlife-viewing opportunities that Newfoundland has to offer! Hike to the iconic Bay Bulls Lighthouse while keeping an eye out for puffins, whales, dolphins, and other wildlife that may be feeding in the bay. There’s also a chance to spot land animals like moose, river otters, and a variety of songbirds. While wildlife is the main focus of this hike, we’ll also take time to explore the area’s unique plant life, geology, and history. Please note that since we’re hiking later in the season, wildlife sightings may be fewer or less frequent compared to peak times.
This 7-km round-trip (3.5 km each way) hike on the East Coast Trail is mostly easy-going and relatively flat. However, the very uneven and rocky terrain, and one difficult spot in particular, mean that this hike requires sturdy footwear and good bodily mobility. The trail is unfortunately NOT accessible to those with mobility challenges. Note that some areas of the trail may also be slippery and/or wet. Please bring extra layers in case the breeze picks up or the fog rolls in! Binoculars are also highly recommended.
